Students tell me reading is the section you either have or you do not. In practice it responds to method as much as any other part of the test.
First, read the question stem before the options. The wrong answers on the SAT are written to sound reasonable. If you know exactly what is being asked, they lose their pull.
Second, find proof in the passage for every answer. If you cannot point to the line that makes an option correct, you are guessing, and the test is built to punish guessing dressed up as intuition.
Third, treat vocabulary in context as a logic question, not a memory one. The passage almost always defines the word for you through the sentences around it.
Fourth, watch your pace with a watch, not a feeling. Most students who run out of time were slow in the first half without noticing. A quick timing checkpoint halfway through fixes more than any speed reading trick.
Fifth, review every miss until you can say why the right answer is right and the wrong one is wrong. The score lives in that second sentence.
